Selling on “The River”

The eBay Seller’s guide to Amazon.com

By former eBay University Instructor Steve Lindhorst,

Foreword by Skip McGrath.

Reading this e-Book I was surprised, intrigue, and delighted in the same time. I have great respect for Steve and Skip, usually people are bias but they are really excellent business men with an open mind.

Skip explains how eBay changes over the years, now eBay is more complex and competitive; it is harder for the little guy to compete.

The general idea of the e-Book is - don’t put all your eggs in just one basket:

·  There are good benefits coming out from Multi Channel Selling

·  eBay and Amazon are different, the rules are different, the audience is different

·  Steve and Skip want to use both eBay and Amazon because they can compensate each other

·  They ignore “eBay Alternative Sites”

Yes, what we call “eBay Alternative Sites”, have poor software, rules are too simple, there is no way, they can compete with eBay now, in this stage.  If we want an alternative, we have to find one of the same caliber as eBay.

To use both make a lot of sense to me:

·  EBay remains an “auction” company, still perfect for typical auction items

·  Amazon is perfect as a “fix-price” place to buy and sell. EBay also have fix-prices, but Amazon prices are bigger, and the margin of profit is bigger

Steve Lindhorst is a great teacher, he explains in details:

·  What eBay and Amazon have in common

·  What is different in Amazon world and

·  When is better to use one or the other.

When you know eBay rules, it is not a progression to start selling on Amazon because the Amazon rules a so different: listing is different, pricing strategy is different, and the level of your control is restricted.

I can say, it is easier to sell on Amazon, but to learn the rules it is not easy, because Amazon doesn’t bother to explain them. We Know that eBay created a lot of avenues to educate the customers, Amazon is not doing it, so.

Reading Steve's e-Book, I discovered the Amazon rules, and YES, make sense to use both eBay and Amazon not one against other. Use one to compensate the other.

Definitely after you read the Steve’s e-Book you can jump and sell on Amazon as well.

Good luck!
